Goals That Don’t Suck: How to Set Ones You’ll Actually Crush

Hey legend,
New year, same old resolutions? Yeah, thought so. Most people kick off January with a laundry list of “shoulds” that die by February because they feel like punishment, not fire.
Here’s the truth bomb: Bad goals make you feel like a failure. Killer goals make you feel unstoppable, even on the days you stumble.
I’m handing you the no BS framework to set goals that light you up instead of burning you out. This isn’t another SMART snoozefest. This is goal-setting that actually sticks.
Why 99% of Goals Fail (And Yours Won’t)
They’re based on “shoulds” from society, not soul-level wants
No emotional fuel, zero excitement = zero follow-through
Too vague, too many, or zero real deadlines
They chase means (money, status) instead of ends (experiences, growth, contribution)
The “Crush It” Goal-Setting Framework (Your New Playbook)
Ask the 3 Most Important Questions (3MIQ) First
Forget “What do I want?” Start here:What experiences do I want to have in life? (Travel wild, master skills, epic love?)
How do I want to grow to become the person who lives those experiences?
How do I want to contribute to the world?
Write raw, honest answers. These become your end goals, the soul deep ones that make everything else click.
Pick 3-5 Bold Goals (With 50% Failure Risk)
Channel Matthew McConaughey’s 50-50 rule: Make at least 2-3 goals scary-big (50% chance you might flop). The rest? Grounding, self-fulfilling ones you know you’ll nail.
Example: “Run a marathon” (bold) vs. “Meditate 10 mins daily” (self-fulfilling).Make Them Suck-Proof (The Upgrade Checklist)
Specific & Vivid: Paint the picture, see, feel, taste the win
Emotionally Charged: Does thinking about it give you goosebumps? If not, tweak
Time-Bound with Milestones: Not “get fit”, “Hit 10% body fat by June 30th”
Aligned & Aligned AF: Does it fuel growth, experiences, and contribution?
Review Weekly: Sunday ritual, celebrate wins, adjust the rest
Daily Ignition Ritual (5 Minutes)
Read your top 3 goals out loud. Visualize the end state. Feel the rush. Then ask: “What’s one tiny move today?” Do it. Momentum is magic.
Quick Wins to Start Today
Grab a notebook (or phone note)
Spend 10 minutes on the 3MIQ right now
List your 3-5 goals using the checklist
Set a phone reminder: “Goals check-in” every Sunday
This is how you go from “another year of trying” to “damn, I’m actually becoming the version I dreamed about.
Message for the Week
Your goals aren’t chores, they’re the roadmap to your most alive self. Set ones that make your heart race, not your stomach drop.
Hit reply and drop your top goal for 2026 (or the bold one that scares you most). I read every one. Let’s crush this year, no excuses, all fire.
